Japanese Food Bagging Practices - Non Eco-Friendly

Bagging food the "Japanese Way" is a courteous yet non-environmentally friendly act.

I had just run my credit card through the cashier machine, when I saw the Shirokiya (Japanese department store) cashier put my 3 food items into two separate plastic bags. Two bags?! I had only purchased 3 small things: a deep fried scallop croquet, a shrimp tempura sushi roll, and a small plate of potato salad. Why two bags?

"Did she have a spacial disorder? Did she not know that cities like San Francisco are banning the use of plastic bags? Or did she not realize that the extra wasted bag could be used for the next customer's groceries?" I wondered to myself.

Then that I got flashbacks from my memory of living in Japan.

Ahhh! "so desu ne!" I remembered in half English and Japanese.

This is the way that the Japanese bag their groceries. They put all the hot food items in one bag, and all the cold food items in another. This practice allows cold food to stay cold, and hot food to remain hot. How could I forget those days of bicycling home with multiple bags of groceries balanced on each side of my orange handle bars--in the rain? Oh, the flashbacks.

So I guess Shirokiya's grocery bagging practice is thoughtful on one hand, but at the same time I do wonder how they negotiate this with the growing movement of eco-conscientiousness. I'll be keeping an eye out for future bagging practices in Japan.

Papa John's Lunch Special

I know, I know, pizza isn't the healthiest lunch. But...one can rationalize that it semi-meets the 4 daily food group requirements. Plus too, the Papa John's lunch specials will make your purse pockets smile:

$3.99 = 6" Pan Pizza with one topping + 20oz Bottled Soda, Juice or Water
$6.99 = 1 Small Pizza with one topping + 20oz Bottled Soda, Juice or Water

I ordered the latter so I could save the other uneaten half for another meal. Both deals are quick and easy and a change from your usual McD's, KFC and Taco Bell.

$35 Massages & Facials – Honoulu & Irvine

Today Selina introduced me to an affordable place to get massages and facials: The International School of Beauty Esthetique (ISBE).

1 hour Swedish or Lomi Lomi massages are priced at a mere $35, and 1 hour European Facials run only $35! To top it off, after every 4th facial you get a free massage! (Just ask for the free “Frequent Membership Card” and have them stamp it after each payment). As another added bonus—go online to get “2 for 1” coupons. How much easier can it be to pamper yourself?!

Selina ordered a 1 hour “Spa II Package” ($38) which included a 30 minute facial and 30 minute back facial. A great combo that she said she enjoyed. I purchased a 1 hour facial and 1 hour massage (detailed below) and plan to order the 1 hour “Back Facial” ($38) for my next appointment. This comes with cleansing and exfoliation, followed by a back massage, and completed with a masque.

Review: I can’t say enough about my massage with Kayoko Ogino. Kayoko is reputed as the best student massage therapist at ISBE—I highly recommend booking with her. She was recommended to me by her lead instructor who herself makes appointments with Kayoko. Kayoko did a great job taking out the knots from my shoulders, performing a painful (but hopefully helpful) exercise on my carpal tunnel wrists, and gave me the best scalp massage which eventually put me to sleep (!). (Kayoko works M-F in the mornings and will be practicing in Hawaii for only 6 more months before opening her own salon in Japan.)

Alex was the student who did my facial. I don’t recommend her as she seems new and inexperienced. Her facial strokes were too light, short, and abrupt and she was tugging at my skin a lot since she didn’t apply enough moisturizer, mud mask, and exfoliating cream. She also didn’t use the steam machine to open my pores (forgot perhaps?). She did excel, however, in giving soothing upper body and hand massages which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, I felt rejuvenated and relaxed and felt that the service was worth it. The only thing that would have made the facial even better would have been a 5 minute foot massage! (ISBE uses Murad facial products.)

Note: Just keep in mind that you will be treated by students in training. You’ll need to give a little bit of grace here and there. Our 9:30 appts began at 9:55 for example, the private massage/facial rooms are ceiling-less so you’ll hear the buzzing of the air conditioning other people talking in the background, and the students are not yet used to providing clear directions of where to change and where/how to lie on the table. But overall, these little things can be easily overlooked with quality spa services. If they give you the option to be treated in an upstairs classroom, I highly recommend taking the offer. These rooms are much quieter and peacefully over look trees and the canal below.

Couture Cusine - Free Dessert Sampler at "Stage"

Calling their culinary creations "Couture Cuisine," Stage just celebrated it’s one year anniversary in May. I enjoyed my meal at Stage, and was entertained by the implementation of the new language used throughout the dining experience. Waiter/esses refer to each course as a “performance”--referencing the appetizer course as the “overture,” entrees as the "denouement" and dessert as it's "finale."

Foodie Tip:
Stage is offering a free dessert sampler plate effective immediately.

(The online coupon was not posted on the website when I checked yesterday, so I called the Stage manager. The online coupon will be available to the public starting today from the restaurant’s website.) The coupon initially had no expiration date but now will read "ends August 2008."

What's Cool About Stage
The eclectic mix of furniture pieces in the restaurant can be bought from the showrooms in the same building. I asked to sit at a particular table whose furniture pieces, overhead lamp, and table settings I liked.

The Information:
Lunch: 11:30-2:30pm; Dinner 5-8:30pm

Happy Birthday to my dear friend, Diane!
This past winter, Di and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary of friendship over Thai food at Saladang Song restaurant in Pasadena. It was a special night of reminicing and cherishing the relationship that we've built throughout our 20s and 30s. Di and I have walked through life's highs and lows together. We know each other's journeys well. Diane is compassionate, wise, and solid in her faith. She has a beautiful heart and I am incredibly blessed to have her in my life.

Celebrating Diane whose beauty radiates with God's love & light. Love you, girl! xoxo

Parking Tickets, Political Rallies, Belly Shots & Baby Cole

My first parking ticket was 'gifted' to me at the UH. I frantically searched for a parking space during the Barrak Obama political rally, not wanting to be late. I had been looking forward to the energy and excitement of the rally…only to find that both the UH campus and Hawaii as a whole seem to be somewhat lethargic to political interests. The rally was on "Hawaii-time" and I needn't have rushed in the first place.

I chatted with actress Kelly Hu, a local-turned-mainlandgirl who flew out to be a rally spokesperson. My cousin was interviewed by the local and Japanese television stations (which aired that night) and my aunt said that I too was on the local news—they didn't air my comments but showed a shot of me when I entered the auditorium (my 'big' break on Hawaii TV). ;) When I returned to my car I found staring at me, a yellow ticket tucked away on my windsheild. Apparently I had parallel parked in 'faculty-only' street stalls—I never even saw or heard of such a thing but paid the $15 fine anyway! (culture shock #203)

[I also attended the Hillary Clinton rally at Zippys in Hawaii Kai which had a better turn out and more supportive energy. Mild chants and cheers were hailed when Chelsea Clinton arrived. But we were all ushered away when Chelsea wanted to eat her lunch.]

I got my second parking ticket a couple weeks ago for parking too close to the entrance of a home driveway. Downtown Kaimuki was packed on the Saturday afternoon of Shayna's baby shower. We held it at “Town” an organic and eco-friendly restaurant. We later walked next door to "Hot Mama" a hip shop for moms and their babies. Where else will you find burp cloths in trendy prints and designs!?

The cool thing is, that even as I write this baby Cole is on his way of being born! His arrival will certainly be a gift to Shay, Dave, his brother Evan, and us all. The funny thing is that we were just taking pregnancy photos of Shayna last night. She called today (while in labor) to share the humor of the timing of it all. Shayna was a fantastic model and good sport. Enthusiastic about wardrobe and background changes, she played along to my and Dave’s instructions: “Look over here” “Smile” “Don’t Smile” “Look over your shoulder” “Tilt your head this way.” What a wonderful attitude she maintained and what a beautiful mom-to-be she was!

I got home around 3:45am after viewing the photos…and after getting an “express camera lesson” on how to manipulate the aperture, shutter speed and ISO of DSLR cameras. I actually now comprehend how these three functions work in tandem with each other and can't wait to try my hand at my new photography skills. Why go back to 'automatic' mode now? (I thank Dave for the gift of this camera lesson and wish Shayna a safe and smooth delivery.)

Can't wait to celebrate the gift of Cole's life!

This posting is dedicated Cole who is on his way into the world. May he delight and bring much joy to David, Shayna and Evan, and all those whose lives he touches.

Coffee Bean & Tea - Rewards Card Update

I was talking to the branch manager and got a tip for Coffee Bean frequenters:

If you don’t fill up your Coffee Bean stamp card (expires July 31), you can now “roll over” the stamp credits to next year’s card (which starts on August 1st).

To top it off, Coffee Bean is now extending the time limit to collect stamp rewards cards. Customers will now have an entire year (rather than 6 months) to fill up each card.

That's good news for CB followers.

J.Jill, Midlife & Child Exploitation

When I saw that JJill.com posted an ad on my blog site I got excited, particularly since I actually own a couple J.Jill items. When I told my friend Angela that I actually shopped at J.Jill she said, "Isn't that like, for *old* people?" Okay, maybe I am getting old, afterall someone did call me "middle aged" the other night. Middle aged? Shesh.

Anyway, I find J.Jill clothes to be light weight, super soft and casually simple...mostly of well knit cotton. If were I living in Colorado or Portland I'd wear this stuff everyday...but even in the OC I find that some of their more casual cotton tops, pants and hooded sweaters can pass for weekend wear around the Newport Beach area--some pieces can seem a bit yoga-ish or beachy (although the line as a whole has an outdoorsy, casual, and simple feel).

My only gripe was that the jewelry I bought were made in places like India and Thailand, and I picture children squatting on the ground stringing the beads on the necklace for a nickel's wage.

I have more to say on child labor, sweatshops, and the global economy but I'll save that for a later post.

There are some great J.Jill sales going on:
Ends Sunday: Extra 25% off already reduced items
Online Outlet: Save up to 70% off
Regular Sale: Up to 60% off

What I'd recommend from J.Jill:
- Kenneth Cole shoes
- Lightweight sweaters
- And (unfortunately) they have really neat jewelry every season that will put you in an ethical crisis

Where to Buy It:
No stores in Hawaii; limited stores in other states
Online at: www.jjill.com (on green bar to the right)

Dedicated to my mom whose closet is packed with J.Jill casual wear, and who introduced me to the comfort of J.Jill clothing.

Modern Twist on Chinese Chic - "Shanghai Tang"

What sets this line of clothing apart from US and European designers who mimic inspiration from Asian culture, is that the designers of Shanghai Tang are actually from Asia and hence first start with the ethnic pieces in mind followed by the task of giving their clothing a contemporary twist and appeal.

The line seems to celebrate ethnicity and culture in its authenticity, rather than capitalize upon the marketability of them in an imperialist manner. While I would wear the clothes for a lecture on Asian American Studies, celebrities such as Nicolas Cage wear Shanghai Tangs as dressy-casual attire for dinner engagements and public events.

Where to Get It:

Asian Clad Jeans - "Fortune Denim"

During my last trip to Maui, I walked around my favorite town of Paia and found found a boutique in that carried this fabulous new demin line: Fortune Denim ($270).

Love the Asian Accents: Silver Asian rivets and button in-lay with 24 Swarovski crystals; Satin lined pockets using fabric from the Chinese chi-pao;
A personal fortune cookie label sewn into the inner waistband of each jean

What Else I Love:
The denim material is super soft and I personally like the "Karen" cut (bootcut). I appreciate the story of the designer, Karen, a 30-something Chinese American woman from Texas who excelled in school through college and who later chose to follow her passions combining ethnic culture, fashion and entrepreneurship. Way cool!

Celebrities Who Wear the Jeans:
Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Teri Hatcher, Demi Moore, and Paris Hilton among others.

Fred Segal | Santa Monica, California

Yellowman – Tattoo Inspired Clothing

“Hey, where you’d get that shirt?” I often ask my brother. J is great at finding asian inspired clothing lines that often fly under the radar. During our recent Peru trip, he wore this tattoo-inspired long sleeved shirt depicting a dragon and a tiger. The asian inspired tatoo design ran throughout the front and back of the shirt and down the sleeves. Yellowman brand shirts run $218.

I found one unassuming place where air travelers can find Yellowman clothing—the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Yes, that’s right…you find the Yellowman line in the “Only in LA” boutique in the American Airlines terminal.

Website: www.yellowman.com

Shout out to my brother, J, who introduces me to the coolest Asian American clothing lines and designers through his own personal purchases.

Charity Bachelor Auction – Update Report

I just got home from the Susan G. Komen fundraiser…ahem…“bachelor auction.” Interested to watch the dynamics of the audience and curious to know if celebrities or local guys would be up for bidding, I picked up my paddle number (#202) and was handed a free t-shirt and pink ribbon before entering the rooftop event. The men ranged from professional models to financial planners, were in their late 20s through mid 30s, with washboard abs and fancy dance moves. The women (and men) in the audience reacted with screams and cheers, egging on further entertainment from the men. The winning bids averaged around $200 and the dates often included a water sport or daytime activity complete with dinner.

To my surprise the bachelors were actually quite handsome, though we favored some more than others. There was the blond haired, blue eyed “Ken Doll” guy who earned the most charity money ($675) and whose date included a day trip to Maui complete with massages, jet skiing and dinner. There were also some rather shy guys who looked so nervous that you just wanted to bid for them just to support their efforts (and interestingly these were the ones who got some of the highest bids!). And then there was the “Igor from the Eastern Bloc” guy who was so cocky and overconfident, and whose stage performance looked more like an X rated strip show than a charity dance (completely unnecessary) who I just wanted to boo off the stage. His winning bid earned a mere $150…a huge blow to the ego. And as far as local boys go, the stereotype is true—Filipinos can dance!

The $10 entrance fee was certainly worth the sheer entertainment of it all. Watching the women fight to out bid each other and seeing them participate on the stage with the bachelors was just a show in itself. I also got some pretty good laughs from the mens’ stage performances. The guys did a great job and I appreciate the courage it took for each one of them to put themselves out there for the sake of charity!

Shout out to my gal-pal CG for a memorable evening to remember.

Hawaii Limited Edition - Gift Cards

Only in Hawaii….specially designed store gift cards.

Nordstrom gift cards come in two designs. One features a hula girl and the other a hibiscus lei. A limited number of cards were manufactured for the Honolulu store’s grand opening this past January. By the end of that month the gift cards were already a scarce commodity.

A few months ago Starbucks stopped printing their special edition hula girl gift cards. These cards were introduced to the Hawaii chains a couple of years ago are becoming difficult to find.

Both cards are expected to increase in net worth and be in demand by enthusiasts and card collectors.

Pretty in Pink - Breast Cancer Cool Picks

A number of companies are teaming up with national foundations to raise awareness and research for the fight against breast cancer. Some of my favorite 2008 “pretty in pink” items:

"PINK" (CD): Hawaiian music artists join together to create an album sampling local , jazz, and pop-remakes to support the Maui Memorial Medical Center--[I like the cause and concept more than the music itself.]($11 at Costco in Hawaii)

Hallmark: Offers a line of free greeting cards. These pink cards are beautifully designed by cancer survivors; each card inscribes a short word about the survivor. Pick the free cards up near the register counter.

Coffee Bean - Creamy pink insulated coffee tumbler; purchases support the National Breast Cancer Foundation ($15).

Others cool picks:

Yoplait Yogurt – Donate $0.10 for every pink foil lid for the Komen foundation
M&Ms

Coffee Bean vs. Starbucks

Hands down, I’m a Coffee Bean gal. I love grabbing my free copy of the Star Bulletin, sitting on the long leather couch, and logging in to my free one hour internet service-- just enough time to check my email and ease into my work.

What I love about Coffee Bean:

Gourmet styled desserts: Red velvet cupcake, carrot cake, assorted pastries as well as their Hawaiian specialties: Lilikoi Mac Nut Bar, Coconut Pineapple Bread Pudding; Haupia Azuki Bean Brioche.

Art at the Bean - Here in Hawaii, each branch features rotating exhibits of paintings and photographs by local artists. I like this month’s contemporary watercolor pieces by Frances Hill. (www.coffeebeanhawaii.com)

Free ‘Beans: Daily copies of the Star Bulletin, one hour of Wi-Fi access, and samples of three selected teas.

Tea Selection: As someone who doesn’t drink coffee, I appreciate their assortment of hot teas, Ice Blended drinks, and Fru’ Teas infusions. This summer’s special: Pina Colada Ice Blended.

Better Music & Lighting—Light pop-alternative, picture windows and numerous recessed lighting give a spacious open feel. Definitely not loud, dark and sleepy as Starbucks.

Food Selection: Broccoli quiche, pesto pasta, assorted wraps, smoked salmon on bagel and beautifully presented gourmet confections (vs. standard Starbucks sandwiches, salads and muffins and scones). My usuals: Granola and milk (oatmeal with macadamia nuts and coconut shavings), Orzo pasta and Salmon fettuccini. Favorite flavored tea is TBD.

A Feminine Touch
—Lightwood panels and furniture, curved architecture and furnishings, and dainty colors and designs of drink mugs and accessories (vs. Starbucks’ masculine bent—dark wood décor, and angular furniture and designed coffee goods). Overall, my theory is that Coffee Bean is catered to the tastes of women and Starbucks to that of men. Let me know what you think.

As a side note, Starbucks has been publicly criticized for their abuse of fair-trade policies and use of imperialistic marketing tactics (e.g. buying out local mom and pops and converting them into chain stores). On the upside, they do use recycled paper products. And in Hawaii they financial support local charities and community organizations.

Forgetful Firework Photo Shooting

Guess what I forgot…my tripod.

Every photographer knows that shooting fireworks requires three minimum things: a tripod, a shutter release remote control, and familiarity with shutter speeds.

Forgetting just one of these can bring a challenge to your photography capabilities. At the very least one should bring a point and shoot camera and pocket tripod using the “fireworks” mode on your SCN setting.

Oh well, that's what the brain's long term memory is for!

Away from My Blog - And Present in Peru

Thank you friends and family who have followed my blog with loyalty.
I am away on a much anticipated family vacation in Peru.

I'm looking forward to seeing the sacred valleys of Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It's one of the things I wanted to do before I died. How wonderful to experience this with family!

[This entry is dedicated to my dad for his generosity and vision to create a lasting family memory. Thanks, Dad!]

A Splash of Color - "Crumpler" Photography Bags

Why stick with the hum drum black photo bags of days past?
Spice things up and add a splash of color to your day!
Crumpler, a five year old Australian company has expanded their line of popular computer bags to reach the pro-photographer market.

Each bag has the padded removable sectional inserts that enthusiasts have come to expect. Best of all, it's stylish design and fun colors make your valuable gear nondescript to the unassuming eye.

There are 7 sizes and a variety of color pallets to choose from. I opted for the light blue and orange "5 Million Dollar Home" (crazy Australian bag names) which is perfect as a simple day bag for travels in Peru or day tripping in Hawaii.

Gotta Love It!

The "5 Million Dollar Home" ($90) comfortably holds a camera body, attached mid-range lens, and zoom lens (e.g. 70-200mm). The "6 Million Dollar" bag ($115) can hold 2 flashes, a body with attached mid-ranged lens, a zoom lens, macro lens and either portrait or super wide angle lens. (The latter would be my choice for an all-in-one bag.)

A "Disneyland" for professional photographers, Samy's is voted the #1 Camera Store in Los Angeles. Sammy’s is a great place to go for pro and prosumer enthusiasts.

I spent a good hour or two in the store getting ready for my trip this weekend, and walked away with big bags of camera gear. Eager to put my purchases in the trunk of my car, I searched my purse for my missing car keys...then had to stop and chuckle--where else but Beverly Hills does one need to valet their car to simply shop in a camera store?!

The Fuller Magic - Seminary Days in Pasadena

As I walked around the Fuller Seminary Bookstore today, I was taken back to memories of how I used to light up inside and feel a surge of excitement and energy as I walked around and flipped through rows and rows of books. I felt like a kid in a candy store--and I wanted to eat it all up.

Today, the bookstore served a more functional purpose...simply a place to buy my summer course books. I am changing. I now only buy the minimal books I will actually read...and am more interested in listening to the lectures on MP3 through an online course rather than showing up for a class and doing the assignments. I used to love to this stuff, what happened? And where did all the magic of Fuller go?

When I was an undergraduate college student, I used to long for the day I could take seminary courses. I would make secret Thursday night runs to the McCalister Library and sit in the basement until closing, reading Church Growth books (early 90s)...stroll around in the bookstore reading Missional books (late 90s) and Leadership Development books (early 2000s)...and sit in the prayer garden dreaming and praying for the day I could sit in my first class. It took almost 10 years for me to finally enroll in my first course, and interestingly the majority of classes I've taken focus on Spiritual Formation. My interests have developed and been refined overtime. And so too have my reasons for being here.

The magic is still here for those who want to receive it. For me, my priorities are changing. And so too is the Fuller Campus--they knocked down the prayer garden...and have left it a pile of rubble.

A Favorite "Pair" in the City

A good pair is hard to find...
(and we're not talking about Carrie and 'Big'
from the weekend's box office hit movie)

In an Ode to the Show, here are a Few Favorites of My Own

Clockwise, Top L: SATC Pink (Kate Spade), All Glitz and Glamor (Jimmy Choo),
Party with a Statement (Prada), With a Little Black Dress (Manolo Blahnik)

A Carrie Bradshaw Martini, please

In honor of this weekend's "Sex and the City, The Movie" release, the Pearl Ultra Lounge at the Ala Moana Center, in conjunction with Skyy Vodka, threw a series of hot pink themed parties complete with a special martini list named after each of the 4 leading ladies (and a high ball drink named "Mr. Big"), foam coasters in the shape of hot pink slippers, drawings for free shoes and gift certificates, and a grand finale shoe contest with a grand prize trip to NYC. Hot pink balloons, hosts in fashionable wear, and SATC episodes playing on the television screens helped the lounge feel oh-so-New York!

Monolos and 'Pearls' - My Stint as a Shoe Model

Strutting across the bar top in 4 inch heels at the Pearl Ultra Lounge, I found myself a contestant for Honolulu’s “Sex and the City - Shoe Contest.” Placing one foot in front of the other, I balanced my way across the long curvy and slippery counter with a hot pink umbrella in hand, did a few pivots and turns and hoped for the best. Although I didn’t win the grand prize—a trip to New York City for the SATC movie premiere—I did walk away with some nice parting gifts. To celebrate the movie's $55 million weekend opening, I thought I’d pay homage to the show’s favorite shoe designer: Monolo Blahnik.

Best Water Bottle – Hydrate with SIGG Style

Thumbs up for these Limited Edition Asian-inspired reusable water bottles by SIGG ($22). SIGG, a 100 year old Swiss company, is known for its quality built products, garnering a consistent loyal base in Europe and Canada.

Four good reasons to buy a SIGG:

1) SIGGs are lined with ceramic leaving water tasting like water—not the plastic or metal container it’s in (FDA approved).

2) SIGGs are eco-friendly – Reusable, made from recyclable aluminum and 1% of every purchase goes toward environmental causes!

3) SIGGs are stylish – They come in 149 fun designs, 6 of them Asian themed

4) SIGGs are functional – They are well constructed and durable, noted as “the world’s toughest water bottle” (Backpacker Magazine), yet weighs almost the same as a plastic bottle.

Unfortunately, SIGG manufacturers are completely sold out of their products for 2008, and according to Hawaii store owners the Asian designs in particular are nearly impossible to find.

Island Secret - Where to Get It:

Lily Lotus Boutique, Kaimuki (only a handful of Asian designs left)
Online: REI and Patagonia (regular designs)

Izukaya Nights

Last night a group of friends and I gathered at the izakaya Kohnotori to reminisce about our years living in Japan. In Japan, izakaya’s are late night drinking establishments that serve bite sized appetizer dishes to accompany the sake and cold beer. But in Los Angeles and Honolulu, izakaya’s have grown to become popular and trendy eating places among the hip and young who often head to these spaces for traditional Japanese food, and who rename the experience as eating “Japanese Tapas”.

The majority of our party ordered the typical izakaya fare: Bacon wrapped asparagus, scallops in ponzu sauce, karaage chicken, yakitori (skewered meat grilled over charcoal, topped with salt or sauce), and ahi poke (found only in Hawai’i izakayas). Mie, who was born in Japan, and Ken, who lived there for 11 years, were more adventurous in their orders--steamed daikon oden, baked lotus root stuffed with meat, and skewered chicken hearts.

Kohnotori is located in the same plaza as Imanas, another crowded and contemporary off-angular designed izakaya. Other popular places include Tokkuri Tei, Yamagen and Sushi Izakaya Gaku. The first izakaya that I tried in Honolulu was Gazen, a spacious dark-paneled restaurant serving dishes with a gourmet flare and health conscious twist. Izakaya Nonbei is another unique space with décor reminiscent of a home or inn found in Japan’s countryside.

Let me know what your own favorite Izakaya is!
