Hawaiian Style McDonalds
With tables inspired by surfboards and signage utilizing Hawaiian words the once familiar fast food chain suddenly becomes a site to see. Serving spam, eggs, and Portuguese sausage for breakfast, saimin for lunch, and pineapple turnovers for dessert, local McDonalds can serve as a welcome treat.

Yee-haw (Makawao Rodeo)
Paniolos, a.k.a. Hawaiian Cowboys, still keep the upcountry culture alive in Makawao town, Maui. Makawao hosts a yearly rodeo attended by paniolos from all over the Hawaiian islands (the only rodeo in the state). I was glad to attend my first event, rooting mostly for the tiny Filipina cowgirl dressed in a green t-shirt and jeans.

City of Refugee (Big Island)
The cool breeze and tall trees made this island sanctuary a historically nice place of refuge. Those in battle could come here to rest and restore their weary bodies without fearing danger from enemy tribes. (A tourist must-see on the Big Island for those looking for Hawaiiana images.)

Hawaiian Petroglyphs
