Carnival - Night Photography

Andrew and I went to the Honolulu Family Festival at Magic Island to practice digital photography at night. It was a frustrating experience trying to take a) night time shots b) with motion and c) with lights while learning how to d) use manual mode for the first time e) accounting for both shutter speed, lighting and apeture.

These are taken with my Canon 17-85mm lens and a compact tri-pod (too light with stand the weight of the camera/lens). Forgot the shutter release at home.

Hawaii Kai’s First Fourth – Beach Party in da ‘Hood

If you can't beat the heat, then beat the crowds...and celebrate the holiday weekend on Honolulu’s “Eastside!"

While 50,000 people will flock to the ever popular Magic Island to celebrate the holiday, locals in the know will be headed to the shores of beautiful Hawaii Kai. Yes, my 'hood will host it's first 4th of July extravaganza complete with children’s activities, outrigger demonstrations, food booths from local sponsors (e.g. Roy’s the original, Bubblie’s mochi icecream, and Jamba Juice), and an ocean front fireworks show at 8pm.

(Get there early as my morning sunrise drive proved that people have been staking their favorite spots since 5am this morning).
